Scanning
How do I get a good identification?
Fill the frame with the creature, keep it in focus, and use good light. Markings, legs and wings are what tell similar species apart, so a sharp, close photo matters more than anything else.
Why did I get a family or order instead of a species?
bimsy names only what the photo supports. If the photo shows enough to tell the group but not the exact species, it stops at the group rather than guess.
What does "couldn't identify" or "not a creature bimsy covers" mean?
The photo didn't show enough to identify anything, or it shows something bimsy doesn't cover. These answers don't use up a free scan. Try a closer, sharper photo.
Does scanning need an internet connection?
Yes. Identification happens on our service, so scanning needs a connection. The field guide and your saved Sightings work offline.
It says I've made too many attempts.
To protect the service from abuse, there is a limit on how many scans can be made in a short period. Wait a little, then try again.
Risk levels
What do Low, Moderate, High and Unknown mean?
They summarise how much risk bimsy is presenting for the creature, with the specific risks listed beneath — such as bites, stings, venom, skin irritation, allergies or risks to pets. Unknown means bimsy could not judge from the photo.
If a risk isn't listed, does that mean there isn't one?
No. bimsy never tells you that a creature is safe. A risk it doesn't mention is one it isn't presenting, not one it has ruled out. If you're unsure, keep your distance and ask a professional.
Someone has been bitten or stung. What should I do?
bimsy is not medical advice. If someone feels unwell, contact a medical professional or your local emergency number straight away.
Sightings
Where are my Sightings stored?
Only on your iPhone. They are not uploaded, and they are not included in iCloud or device backups — so they don't move to a new phone.
How do I delete Sightings?
Delete one from the Sightings list, or remove all of them in Settings.
Subscriptions
What do I get for free?
Your first five scans are free. Bimsy Pro unlocks unlimited scanning.
How do I restore a purchase on a new phone?
Open the subscription screen in bimsy and choose Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple: open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
Privacy
Do you keep my photos?
Our service keeps no photos and no results. A photo is sent off your iPhone only to identify it. The details, including our AI provider's handling, are in the privacy policy.
